Light a Candle
John Webber Orcutt, son of Charlotte and Elmer Orcutt, passed away on August 9, 2010 by his own hand. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Sara Orcutt (Kevin Martin), his step-daughter, Shelly Shaw (Robin Shaw) and 2 step-grandchildren.
Also brothers, James Orcutt (Brenda Orcutt), Jeff Orcutt (Patti Orcutt), a sister Jayne Van Sickle (Jim Van Sickle), as well as the following nieces and nephews. Graham Kornmeyer, Eric Kornmeyer, Adam Kornmeyer, Jessica Orcutt, Michael Orcutt, Mary Orcutt, and Cressman Orcutt.
He was married to his first wife for 19 years (Charlotte), before marrying Karen Orcutt for 11 years.
John's favorite saying was "Live on the Edge" which he did nearly his entire life. A man filled with passion and drive, he worked as hard at his job as he did at his enjoyment of motorcycling, fishing, hunting, boating, using his hands to make things and refurbish items of interest. His motorcycle rebuilds started with rusty parts in a box that turned out to be magnificant bikes he rode and loved.
John loved playing games such as acie ducie, cribbage and dominos. He worked crossword puzzles and sudukos challenges.
He was born in Bangor ME and lived all over the United States. He idolized his father who passed away when he was 57 from melanoma cancer. John himself had found out he had lymphnoma, a blood cancer, at the age of 54. He often said he wondered if he would out live his father, as the Orcutt males in his lineage all seemed to die at a very young age. He would have made it had his choices in life been different. But the wish to out live his father ended 3 1/2 months too soon.
Charlotte, John's mother, died of lung cancer at the age of 8?. From this time until his death, John would lead the charge to raise $30,000 dollar during Relay for Life and was very ampathetic to the cause to find a cure.
As a boy John enjoyed particpating in Boy Scouts, tinkering at the shop where his father worked as a Homelite representative and enoying the woods, waters, and nature where he lived. He could mimic birds and never stopped sitting on a porch to lure them in.
He enjoyed camping and fishing, in our time, Sebastian Inlet in Florida was a favorite spot.
